Double glazed glass for all our window and door products

Double glazing offers a significant upgrade in energy efficiency compared to traditional single glazing, which was commonly used in older homes. Single glazing has poor insulating properties, allowing heat and cold to pass through easily. In contrast, double and glazing provides a significant barrier against heat transfer, keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer. The New Zealand Building Code now requires double glazing on all new builds to meet national home energy-efficiency targets.

EcoDemo Windows & Doors offer a range of stock windows and doors with double glazing, as well as custom made options to suit any size or shape. Our team can work with you to design and manufacture double glazed products that meet your specific needs. All our glass is tested and certified to AS/NZS 2208 and NZS 4223 and NZS 4666. Contact us to find out more.

Single and Double Glazing - What's the difference?

Benefits of upgrading to Double Glazing

While single glazing might appear to be a more affordable option, double glazing offers significant long-term benefits in terms of energy efficiency, comfort, and overall cost savings. With the biggest difference being the gap between the double glass panes as shown in the diagram above. This provides further insulation by preventing the transfer of heat and cold air, allowing for thermal insulation to line the windows and doors within the home. Some of the main benefits include:

Energy Efficient:
Unlike single paned glass, double glazing helps maintain a stable indoor temperature, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling which will contribute to lower energy bills.
Maximise Comfort:
Making the switch to double glazing will significantly reduce drafts and cold spots near windows and doors. Double glazing is also ideal for lessening external noise, creating a quieter indoor environment for your home.
Condensation Control:
Double glazing is one of the most effective ways to reduce condensation. Especially in the colder months the reoccurrence of condensation can damage window frames, interiors and contribute to the build up of mould and mildew.

Safety glass for peace of mind

At EcoDemo Windows & Doors, our double glazed products are made of safety glass that is tested and certified to AS/NZS 2208 and NZS 4223, ensuring that it meets the highest standards for impact resistance and breakage. Our safety glass is either laminated or toughened: laminated glass holds together if shattered, minimising the risk of injury, while toughened glass is designed to shatter into small, blunt fragments, reducing the risk of harm. Safety glass is particularly important for shower glass, glass balustrades, low windows, and side glass panels in doors.

Low E glass for energy efficiency

Our double glazed products feature Low E glass, which is designed to minimise heat transfer and reduce energy costs. Low E glass is coated with a very thin layer of metal oxide, which reflects heat rather than absorbing it, keeping your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Low E glass is available in a range of thermal performance levels - please contact us to find out more.

Argon gas filled insulating glass units (IGUs)

All of our double glazed products feature Insulating Glass Units (IGUs) filled with argon gas. Argon gas is a non-toxic, non-reactive gas that is denser than air, providing additional thermal insulation and reducing heat transfer.
